槟城国家公园是世界上最小的国家公园，位于槟岛的西北角。这个国家公园充滿了一些诱人的景点，如Kerachut海滩、美罗美迪湖、海龟培育中心及自然森林的花卉、昆虫等等。因而趁著年终假期而特別开办了2天1夜由吉隆坡出发的休闲游，同时这段时期也是观赏双子座流星群的最佳时期，出团日期是2009年 12月11日。
流星普遍被视为一种有趣的天然夜空现象。双子座流星群是长年倍受看好的流星群之一，无论是天文学家还是一般爱好者，都因为其极盛时期每小时可达100颗流星 的盛况而精神抖擞。双子座在12月中旬于晚间约10时左右升于东方天际，因此我们占有优良的时机。靜躺在细白的沙滩上，约莫午夜时分双子座就高挂夜空中， 而无须等到凌晨5、6点。这时候所见的流星，多数原自于双子座，故被称为双子座流星群；而发射出流星的那一处则是辐射点，靠近“北河二”这颗亮星。能从夜 空中辨认出众多的星座是蛮有趣的事，当晚有指导员将与大家分享如何使用星图以辨识星座及观赏流星群的贴士。
位于槟島国家公园以西的海滩，唯一的住宿设施就是露营。那里的基本设施如厕所、浴室、活动厅都一应俱全。遊人只需自备衣服、梳洗用品、毛毯或睡袋即可。
傍 晚时分，Kerachut海域的落日余晖必将令人回味无穷，相机快门多按几下也无妨。晚间我们将享用烧烤晚餐，接著听浪涛的起落、海风的啸吟！此处的沙滩也是绿海龟上岸产卵之地，因此海龟培育中心也设立于此来孵化小海龟。海龟下蛋也有季节性，当本团12月中到访之际很可能碰上将小海龟孵化并放回大海。海龟 对于灯光十分敏感，如果遇上海龟孵蛋，任何相机闪光灯或手电筒均不适宜使用。
槟城国家公园是一个结合海与森林的自然景区。遊客不但乐于进行探索，也从自然环境得到学习的乐趣。从森林徒歩中，我们的参加者都将由所听所见中体味，尤其是美罗美迪淡水湖的水从不与海域的水混合。
翌日，我们沿途还会参观蝴蝶公园。购买土产后，就告别槟城，回到吉隆坡。
The world’s smallest national park, Penang National Park, is nestled at the northwest corner of Penang Island. Some of the main attractions of Penang Taman Negara are Pantai Kerachut, The Meromictic Lake, Turtle Hatchery Centre and flora and fauna. Therefore, a year end 2-day-1-night trip has been scheduled to Penang departure from Kuala Lumpur on 11 – 12 December 2009. Another highlight of the trip to Penang National Park is the Geminid Meteor Watch.
Meteor is popularly known as an interesting yet natural happening in the nightsky. Geminid Meteor Shower is one of the yearly attractions to astronomers as well as casual observers because of its hourly rate up to 100 meteors during the peak. In mid December, we stand a better timing for viewing Geminids as the constellation of Gemini will rise from the eastern sky at 10pm. When lying along the white sandy beach for meteors that streaking from Gemini, it shall be positioned high in the sky zenith during midnight. For observers in northern hemisphere, we do not need to wait until wee hour for the show. The meteor shower is known as Geminid Meteor Shower because the meteors are radiating from the constellation of Gemini. The radiant, near the bright stars, Castor, is well up in the sky. Identifying constellations is fun. Instructor will brief the how-to of using a star chart and the tips of viewing meteor shower.
Camping is the only available lodging at Pantai Kerachut. Shower and activity facilities are adequately provided. Visitors are to bring themselves sufficient clothing and sleeping bag or floor mat for camping.
Sunset view at Pantai Kerachut would be a memorable one to experience and record. Meanwhile, barbeque dinner will be served. After the dinner, listen to the sea breeze and relax! The sandy beach is also the nesting place of green sea turtles in different seasons. Hatchery center is setup there for turtle hatchery and release them to the sea. And we might have luck to release baby turtles during our visit in December. Sea turtles are very sensitive to lights therefore, any camera flash or lightings are prohibited when turtles are nesting.
Penang National Park is a haven that combines forest and sea. Visitors will find it exciting to explore and interesting to learn from the nature environment. Visitor will be amazed by the seeing-and-listening from the trekking especially the fresh water of Meromictic Lake has never mixed with the sea.
On the second day, Penang Butterfly Farm will be unforgettable visits in Penang. After buy some local products, we will depart bac k to KL.
