International Year of Astronomy 2009 “Galileoscope Workshop” (27~28/06/09)

International Year of Astronomy 2009 “Galileoscope Workshop” (27~28/06/09)

400 years ago, a Dutch lensmaker Hans Lipperhey invented an instrument that brought the distant view (objects) closer. When Galileo Galilei found this, he modified the optical instrument to make it a telescope and discovered the spectacular phenomena of sky wonders. They are the sunspots, low-lands and craters on the Moon surface, four moons orbiting Jupiter like our Moon’s orbiting the Earth, Venus’s phases and billions of stars in the Milky Way Galaxy. Would you like to become Galileo? Pick up the telescope that you fabricate by yourself and point to the sky as Galileo did 400 years ago. Try to observe any objects with the 20-powered telescope. In the modern society with the highlighting of high-end technology, many of us are not universe awareness minded. And the young ones are hardly looking up to the nightsky. Since 2009 has been proclaimed by UNESCO and IAU as the International Year of Astronomy, it’s anticipating that the people would take the opportunities to actively involve in the celebration regionally.

Galileoscope is made of good quality of lenses at affordable price. It’s modified and researched by a group of amateur astronomers and hobbyists in conjunction with the IYA 2009. Galileoscope is built with 44mm in diameter in magnification 20x to 38x (power) which reveals you the objects that viewed by Galileo 400 years back. It shows more details than last time of the Moon’s craters, Jupiter’s moons, Saturn with ring and stars in our Milky Way.

Children in city are barely to appreciate the starry sky with practical activity. Nevertheless, they lack of opportunities to know (or to discover) the position of human kind in the universe, and the relationship between us. Astronomy knowledge is part of science taught in elementary school, however, practical program is not available and students are exposed to insufficient hands-on activities. Therefore, “Galileoscope” is a program with hands-on experience to scientifically motivate the young ones for future.

A scientifically motivated workshop for your children : “Galileoscope Workshop”

Children are full of imagination and curiosity when they learn about astronomy in school and they anticipate having a telescope to gaze at night sky for planets, the Moon, stars and so on. However, parents are not sure if the kids are merely “5 minutes” in astronomy to have a proper telescope. Instead, “Galileoscope Workshop” is an ideal alternative option for parents and children, because Galileoscope as an observing kit will be included in the workshop to satisfy a child’s desire to explore. Attending “Galileoscope Workshop” at less than RM200 will save parents from spending few hundred ringgit before the children are ready for their first telescope! And yet, children will learn about the observing skill and make the scope by themselves from the workshop, with hands-on experiences! Galileoscope is truly a basic telescope at 38-power for observing the Moon’s craters, Jupiter’s four moons, Saturn with its ring! A worthy choice that one stone killing 3 birds!
